At the moment, a number of the TCAT bus routes pass through the Triphammer-Hanshaw corridor, and although there's a policy for flagging down buses at corners, I'm not aware of a dedicated stop at Community Corners. A bus stop could be handy for cashing in on the Cornell crowd, but we'll just have to wait and see when the formal proposal comes forth.

These 'town center' (or town, as they usually prefer) type places still generally cater to the wealthy residents of the neighborhood they're located in. A good barometer for actual mixed-use: Will public transit go there?

I agree with your last paragraph. Time for Cayuga Heights to take advantage of the building boom in Tompkins County. But I do fear for the crazy intersections there. The roadways will need improved traffic control.

I was in Gamma Delta Pi the very same years ('76-'80) and what happened to Joey should never have happened...it was an incredible tragedy and everyone who was there will never forget it. However, the greek life on and off campus added a tremendous experience to my IC years that I truly feel was very worthwhile. It saddens me that Greek life ended. Those individuals who don't experience it simply have nothing to base their opinions on and I am grateful I am not among them. Funny thing is, when I was choosing a college, I didnt want a school that had a significant percentage of the student body in a fraternity or sorority. That was my ignorance!

[…] Ithacating in Cornell Heights picked up on this new development about a year ago, and the site plans have just been submitted for review (see below). It looks as if the developer has scaled down this project, as the plan now calls for four buildings holding 20 units (mostly three bedrooms) on the corner of Highland Ave and Thurston Ave (across from Seal and Serpent). Page 23 shows a nice render of what the project would look like without any vegetation, and page four shows a nice breakdown of the properties surrounding the site. […]

Whoa. No need to be alarmed, I don't plan on stopping writing just yet, and I have no intention on "shutting down" this blog. I was doing more of a reflection, thinking about how things have changed over time (which maybe I should have saved for the 5-year anniversary next month). Jason, I'll send you an email when my schedule frees up.

As you've hinted in this post, not competition, more complementary. I know you've cut back on the blog, but you still toss in subjects outside Ithaca developments. I also like your editorializing moments (though I don't always agree), it's thought provoking.
So stop this nonsense about ending your blog.

As far as Ithaca Builds, I do have great hopes for it. Looks like they've already got some renderings I've not seen before. Seems like I'll have to spend even more time on the computer. I hope the wife cuts down on the Honey-do list so I can explore more Ithaca happenings.

Yikes- please don't stop writing. Your blog is the inspiration for doing Ithaca Builds. I intended to reach out to you before going live to see where we could help to enhance the tremendous work you've done for years now.
The idea for our site is to provide an explorable/interactive format with mapping and photos, mainly just focusing on downtown projects, form-based zoning, taxation & land-use issues, etc.
Email me and let's chat,

Yeah, please don't stop. The new site looks nice and all, and may indeed end up being a meaningful complement, but for now there's really no writing and analysis at all. Plus as you note, you've got years of history you can easily link back to as you discuss the progress of a project.

Keep up the good work! It's appreciated.
